This piece was built for a client who wanted an oversized cutting board for the top of his pizza oven rolling stand. Constructed out of 1 3/4" end grain black walnut and maple blocks, it's easy to see why I call this the checkered flag. The end grain construction makes it extremely durable, perfect for cutting his pizzas right out of the oven. After the cutting board was finished, bolts were added to the bottom to screw into the rolling stand. Finished with tung oil, which penetrates deep into the wood, then sealed with beeswax to provide the outer layer of protection and shine.
